That is the lesson of The First Tee, which held a fundraiser June 30 at Merion Golf Club.

Several hundred local youngsters and well represented from TFT Philadelphia were on hand Tuesday morning June 28 at Waynesborough Country Club in Easttown for a junior clinic.

Former President George W. Bush was named The First Tee’s honorary chair at The First Tee’s Network Meeting in February, where more than 600 chapter executive directors, program directors, coaches and volunteer board members gathered in San Antonio, TX.

One day after competing against each other, Maddie Gilmartin and Louis Kelly from TFT Philadelphia and Stephanie Carlozzi and Matt Taylor from TFT Naples partnered with Champions Tour player Tom Wargo and teamed up for a birdie-fest at the ACE Group Classic Pro-Am to fire a 22-under par.

For the last two years, the “Chapter Challenge” between TFT Philadelphia and TFT Naples has been an exciting and friendly competition, with each team holding one victory.

On October 24th, 2010 The First Tee Philadelphia at Walnut Lane Golf Club hosted The 2010 Friendship Challenge along with the first ever Collegiate Day and Health Fair.

On Thursday April 8th, 2010 - The First Tee of Philadelphia commemorated their sixth year anniversary at FDR Golf Club with a visit from First Philadelphia Charter School, one of the feature Philadelphia charter schools in The First Tee National Schools Program.

On Saturday, April 10, 2010, Walnut Lane G.C. was the host of a Golf-A-Thon to raise money for The First Tee Philadelphia Learning Center. This 9 hour and 10 minute event raised $7450 and counting in pledges and donations for the new First Tee facility, which is to be built this summer.

The goal of The First Tee is to instill life lessons through the sport of golf.

It was cold and overcast when the first group of TFT Philadelphia youth walked into Aronimink Golf Club.
